The UNA-USA Student Alliance seeks to engage students by creating a nationwide network of motivated individuals, student advocacy groups, international affairs clubs, and Model UN teams who stand poised to collectively sound their voices and make their opinions heard amongst their peers, in their communities and across the nation.

Symposia on International Relations : The 'Rights of Man' and Political Violence

RUNASA will be presenting a serious of three symposia, entitled "The 'Rights of Man' and Political Violence." The proposed symposia are aimed at investigating an apparent conundrum. On the one hand, the first five years of the XXI century have been marked by an increase in political violence against civilians in most corners of the world. On the other, this period has been characterized by the unprecedented predominance of the idea of Human Rights, understood broadly as a set of inalienable rights one has by virtue of being a human being. How can we reconcile these two seemingly incompatible features of current world politics? What is the conceptual relationship between various forms of political violence, notably terrorism, and various versions of the doctrine of the "Rights of Man"? What can current global structures and events such as 9/11. the War in Iraq, and the Iranian nuclear development tell us about this relationship? More...
